Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University was established in 1967 as an expansion of the already existing Kaliningrad State Pedagogical University, which was established in 1947.

The Institute of Medicine was founded in 2006 when the General Medicine Programme at the IKBFU was introduced. The Medical College was established by the University in 2008. The Institute has also provided secondary vocational education programs since that time.

The Medical Institute currently has 2200 students enrolled in Higher and Vocational Medical programs, with 200 professors instructing them. There are 96 professors, 74 of whom have PhDs in Medicine and instruct students in higher education programs.
